New appointed Israeli Chief of Staff reveal new record of the losses toll due to Gaza war
Revealing new losses, the appointed Israeli Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir, said that the number of bereaved families in Israel as a result of the war of extermination on the Gaza Strip reached 5,942 individuals, while the number of wounded soldiers exceeded 15,000.
This came in the first speech by Zamir, who was appointed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu early this February as Chief of Staff after his predecessor, Herzi Halevi, announced his intention to resign last January, according to a statement by the Ministry of Defense on its Facebook page on Sunday.
The statements of Zamir, who is scheduled to officially assume the position of Chief of Staff on March 6, differ significantly from the Israeli army’s announced data on the losses of its soldiers in the war in Gaza.
The Israeli army website shows that the number of its dead since the beginning of the war of extermination on October 7 is 844 officers and soldiers, including 405 since the beginning of the ground invasion of Gaza.
The Israeli army explains that the number of wounded is 5,696 officers and soldiers, including 2,572 since the start of the ground invasion of Gaza.
According to Zamir, “more than 15,000 soldiers who suffered physical and mental injuries were absorbed into the rehabilitation system of the Ministry of Defense, and 5,942 individuals joined the bereaved families,” meaning the families of soldiers killed in the war parents, siblings, and children).
Throughout the war of extermination that lasted more than 15 months, international observers noted that Israel only announced part of its human and material losses, while military censorship imposed a strict blackout on the extent of the real losses.
In the same speech, Zamir said, “2025 will remain a year of fighting… The Defense Ministry must continue to work to improve its combat capabilities, build strength and support the needs of the Israeli army and national security missions”.
He added, “The Israeli Ministry of Defense purchased weapons and logistics worth 220 billion shekels ($61.5 billion) in 2024, more than four times the amount in a normal year”.
The appointed Israeli Chief of Staff stated that more than 150 billion shekels ($42 billion) have been invested in local purchases, with the aim of strengthening the Israeli defense industries and reducing dependence on abroad.
On January 30, Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that the costs of the Israeli war of extermination on the Gaza Strip amounted to $42 billion, at a rate of $83.8 million per day.
On January 19, the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel went into effect. Its first phase will last for 42 days, during which negotiations will begin to begin a second and then a third phase, mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States.
