Moscow respond to the recent statements made by the French President
The Russian Foreign Ministry described French President Emmanuel Macron’s hints about the possibility of sending ground forces to Ukraine as “Western things”.
This was stated by the Ministry’s spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, on Sunday, in an interview with the Russian “Solovyov Live TV” channel.
Zakharova explained that the French president makes different statements from time to time.
She added, “He constantly contradicts himself and says very strange things; First, he talks about sending troops from the European Union or NATO to the conflict zone (in Ukraine), and then he confirms that he will never try to do something like that”.
Earlier on Sunday, French President Emmanuel Macron hinted at the possibility of launching a ground operation against Russia in Ukraine, referring to the possibility of sending Western ground forces to the country that has been witnessing a Russian military operation since 2022.
Macron’s statement was published by the French newspaper Le Parisien on Saturday evening during his return flight after a visit to Berlin in which he met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
“Maybe at some point — I don’t want that and I won’t take the initiative — there should be operations on the ground, whatever their form, to confront Russian forces,” he said.
