Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said he could envisage kidnappings targeting other world leaders similar to the kidnapping carried out by the United States in Venezuela, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Medvedev, who is currently the deputy head of Russia’s National Security Council, said: “The kidnapping of neo-Nazi Meretz could be a great turning point in this festival of events… Such a scenario isn’t impossible,” he added.

“There are even reasons to prosecute him in Germany, so there will be no loss, especially since German citizens suffer unnecessarily,” Medvedev said.

He also added that the Trump administration’s allegations of illegality by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro — who was arrested in a US military operation over the weekend and transferred to New York — do not prove true upon scrutiny.

Medvedev then turned to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, saying his term was long over.

Moscow has long claimed that Zelensky is an illegitimate president because no elections were held.

However, Zelensky remains in office under Ukraine’s constitution, which allows for the extension of the president’s term during the war.
