Maariv: The situation in the north is unstable and the ceasefire agreement is weak
A month after the signing of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah, mediated by the United States, the situation on the northern border is far from stable.
The field picture on the ground shows a complex picture indicating a large gap between the agreements and actual behavior, according to the Israeli newspaper Maariv.
The Israeli army continues to operate inside Lebanese territory under the pretext of searching for Hezbollah military infrastructure, in conjunction with air strikes against Hezbollah military movements.
In contrast, the Lebanese army faces major challenges that hinder its deployment south of the Litani, related to the lack of human and financial resources, as well as the inability to confront Hezbollah independently.
On the other hand, Israeli political estimates indicate that Hezbollah is seeking to undermine the agreement by ignoring its obligations regarding the storage of weapons and military infrastructure, in an attempt to maintain its influence within Lebanon.
According to Maariv, Israeli intelligence reports revealed that the party is studying the establishment of new forces operating under a different name, similar to the model of the Hezbollah Brigades in Iraq, to attack Israeli forces without the attacks being directly attributed to the party.
At the same time, Israel is considering maintaining a military presence in southern Lebanon to establish a security zone, amid fears among residents of northern settlements that they will return to their homes despite the ceasefire.
Tensions on both sides of the border indicate that the situation remains volatile, and that a single rocket launch could be enough to reignite the conflict.
Meanwhile, the United States, France and Saudi Arabia continue their efforts to bring political stability to Lebanon, with little progress.
