Jeffrey: All foreign forces except Russia must withdraw their from Syria
The United States considered that all foreign countries forces except Russia, and primarily Iran, should withdraw their troops deployed in Syria.
US special envoy for Syria James Jeffrey announced in a conference last Tuesday.
Jeffrey issued a US demands for all foreign troops to withdrawal from Syria with except the Russian presence at their technical supply points in Tartous and the air base in Khmeim.
Jeffrey explained that the US administration does not include these two positions in the list of forces that must be withdrawn because they were in Syria before the outbreak of the crisis in the country in 2011.
“All other forces will be ready to leave Syria if the Iranians withdraw and there is a political solution”, Jeffrey said.
On the other hand, the US special envoy stressed that the United States is seeking in Syria to eliminate the Islamic state and confirmed the refusal of the United States to provide any assistance for the reconstruction of the country before taking its president, Bashar Al Assad, steps to launch the political transition.
The military forces of four foreign countries, Russia and Iran, which support the Syrian government, and the United States, which leads the international coalition against the Islamic state are currently active in Syrian territory on a permanent basis.
The US support the Syria Democratic Forces and Turkey, In addition to Israel, which occasionally launches attacks on sites in Syria that it says belong to the forces.
Iran or its allies in the region, The Lebanese Hezbollah.
Jeffrey’s statement is a continuation of the US position, which seems to recognize the Russian presence in Syria and its interests in this country, with the possibility of another attempt to create strife between Iran and Russia.
