Israel Today: The Israeli army is digging a trench along the border in the Golan
The Israel Today newspaper said that the Israeli army began digging a trench behind the separation fence along the border with Syria, as part of a new plan to secure the border areas, in order to prevent the recurrence of a scenario similar to the Hamas operation.
The Israel Today newspaper added that the threats on the Syrian front are less, but the scenarios are similar, explaining that the various militias, including the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian agents, are trying to establish their presence in the Golan and attack Israel from there.
The Israel Today newspaper explained that the trench that the Israeli army is digging on the border in the Golan includes large areas, at a depth and width that does not allow vehicles to pass.
The Israeli army’s engineering units are working to dig trenches in places that have been identified as suitable for crossing.
It quoted a company commander in the Golan Heights as saying that digging the trench aims to disrupt and delay any attempt to reach the separation fence, after the Israeli army noticed that vehicles entered freely from the Gaza Strip on October 7 last year.
