Israel Hayom: The IDF Approves Operational Plans for Attack on Lebanon

The Israeli army announced on Tuesday the approval of offensive plans targeting Lebanon.

According to the Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom, Major General, Ori Gordin, commander of the Northern Command, conducted an assessment of the security and military situation in the north, followed by the army’s approval of operational plans to attack Lebanon.

Earlier, Lebanese Hezbollah released aerial footage filmed by its drones showing important Israeli military sites in multiple areas, increasing tensions in the region.

These footages included military industrial sites, Iron Dome platforms, air defense missile depots, as well as residential and commercial sites.

The Israeli military noted late Sunday that Hezbollah had fired more than 5,000 rockets, anti-tank missiles and drones the war in Gaza begun.

In an article, the army spokesman stressed that Hezbollah’s continued escalation could lead to a large-scale escalation that could have serious consequences for Lebanon and the region.

He added that Israel will take all necessary measures to protect its citizens and restore security to the Lebanese border, in light of Hizballah’s refusal to abide by Security Council Resolution 1701.

Israeli reports also said last Friday that army commanders recommended ending the military campaign in Rafah early to prepare for a possible Lebanese front against Hezbollah.

According to Israel’s Channel 12, the recommendation was made to political leaders during a meeting of Israel’s War Council on Thursday evening.

Clashes between Hezbollah and the Israeli army have continued in southern Lebanon since the outbreak of the Israeli war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, with the two sides continuing to exchange cross-border shelling regularly.

Hezbollah has recently increased the frequency of its attacks, targeting Israeli sites with dozens of rockets and drones, stressing that these attacks come in support of the steadfast Palestinian people in Gaza and in support of their valiant resistance.

These confrontations are among the most serious escalations between the two sides since the 2006 war, raising fears that the conflict could escalate into a wider confrontation.
