The Iranian Supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, issued a decree appointing Major General Amir Hatami as the Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Army, promoting him to the rank of Major General (Lieutenant General), replacing Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, whom Khamenei appointed as Chief of the General Staff following the killing of Major General Ali Bagheri, who was assassinated by Israel early Friday morning.

The text of the appointment decree issued by the Supreme Leader read, “In view of your commitment, competence, and experience, I hereby appoint you, with your promotion to the rank of Major General, as the Commander-in-Chief of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran”.

Khamenei directed Major General Hatami to accelerate the pace of improving combat capabilities and readiness, spiritual elevation and insight, meeting living needs, and cooperating with other armed forces, with the goal of bringing the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Army to a more competent level.

The Supreme Leader pointed to the huge reserve of competent and faithful manpower in the army, and the experience gained during the Sacred Defense period and beyond.

At the conclusion of the decree, Khamenei thanked Major General Seyyed Abdolrahim Mousavi for his sincere and valuable efforts throughout his service.
