Iran announced the execution of an agent linked to Israel’s Mossad service
Iran has executed a cleric for spying for Israel, the judiciary’s Mizan Online news agency reported on Saturday.
“The death sentence was carried out against Aqeel Kashwarz, who was convicted of spying for the Zionist entity, communicating and cooperating with this entity, and taking pictures of military and security sites, after the verdict was approved by the Supreme Court and after completing the legal procedures,” the agency said.
According to the Iranian agency, the man was arrested between April and May 2025 in northwestern Iran.
Since the outbreak of the 12-day war between Iran and Israel in June, Tehran has vowed to conduct speedy trials of those arrested on charges of doing business with Israel, and announced the arrest of a number of people and the execution of at least 10 people convicted of the charge.
In October, Tehran tightened sanctions on those accused of spying for Israel, the United States, or other governments or entities deemed hostile to the Islamic Republic, sentencing them to confiscation of all assets, and the death penalty.
Prior to that, laws didn’t mention any particular country in espionage cases, and the death penalty wasn’t necessarily the death penalty.
