Hürriyet: Revealing the reason behind why the Turkish Foreign Minister refused to hug his US counterpart

Turkish Hürriyet newspaper revealed the reason why Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan refused to hug his US counterpart, Antony Blinken, during his visit to Türkiye.

According to Hürriyet, what happened was due to lack of tact on the part of the US secretary of State before the meeting took place, as the car that was carrying Blinken arrived at the headquarters of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but Blinken didn’t get out of the car because he had a phone call.

According to the Turkish newspaper, Turkish Minister Hakan Fidan waited for to welcome Blinken in front of the ministry’s gate according to protocol, however Antony Blinken was late for several minutes to get out of the car, which seemed to anger the Turkish Foreign minister, who returned inside the ministry building.

The tension in the meeting was clear, as the US Secretary of State spoke to reporters alone at the airport before his departure, without holding press conference with of his Turkish counterpart, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan refused to meet with the US Secretary of State.
