Henry Kissinger: The drums of war beating between the United States and China
Former American diplomat, Henry Kissinger, warned that the tension between the United States and China threatens the entire world, and may lead to an unprecedented conflict between the two giants militarily and technically.
The Secretary of State under former President Richard Nixon, the architect of the historical rapprochement between Washington and Beijing in the 1970s, said that the enormous economic, military and technological capabilities of the two superpowers make the current tension more dangerous than that which occurred in the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union.
Kissinger (97 years) added in a forum hosted by the think tank “McCain Institute” that this “is the biggest problem for the United States, and the biggest problem for the whole world”.
This is not the first time that Kissinger warns of a possible conflict between the two countries.
Last year, in an interview with Bloomberg, he warned of a possible global war, the two main parties of which are the United States and China.
“Bloomberg” agency quoted Kissinger as saying that what is important now in the broad policies of the two countries is to set limits to the confrontation.
Kissinger warned: “That is the way against a repeat of the First World War today”.
Kissinger said that what is happening now is like a global cold war between the two countries, adding that he feared that this war would develop soon.
Kissinger explained that there is a problem with Washington, which is to establish a conviction that the United States is the hegemon in the world alone, and it is a conviction that must be changed.
It is also noteworthy that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had previously announced that Beijing would take firm and decisive measures against Washington if diplomatic relations between the two countries deteriorated.
