Haaretz: We’re watching cooking shows while Gaza’s children are starving!
An Israeli writer denounced the Israelis’ silence regarding the starvation of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip by Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, to the point where children are starving.
According to Ayelet Harel, who wrote on Haaretz newspaper on Monday, “While Israelis watch TV cooking shows, Israel continues to kill and starve masses of Gazans”.
She added that “most of the Israeli public doesn’t want to see or know what is happening in Gaza”.
Harel continued, “Major media outlets, with the exception of Haaretz, are violating their journalistic responsibilities by concealing the state’s actions in Gaza from public view”.
She added, “Life continues as usual in Israel: TV screens flick from one program to another, while the air force commits another war crime”.
“An hour’s drive from Tel Aviv, hungry children are starving for food, while we watch another recipe in the winning kitchen,” Harel said.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that the death toll from famine and malnutrition since October 2023 had risen to 101, including 80 children, after 15 Palestinians, including four children, died in the past 24 hours.
Since March 2, Israel has avoided continuing to implement a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement with Hamas, closing Gaza’s crossings to aid trucks stacked along the border.
Harel emphasized that the Israeli army “commits war crimes in the name of the Israeli government, and with the exception of a small minority in the country, Israelis don’t mind”.
She continued, “I don’t have any expectations from the right, but where is the liberal camp? Where did it disappear? How do they sleep at night?”
She asked in denunciation, “How long will this campaign of revenge, which includes sacrificing hostages in Gaza, and soldiers, continue?”
Harel continued, “When will we say enough is enough? Israel has lost all self-control and all moral standards”.
She stressed that security won’t be achieved through the killing, suffering, and displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians… Rather, it will lead to more revenge, hatred, and the loss of our humanity.
She added, “The Israeli government’s criminal actions and moral lapses have a price that we, our children, and our grandchildren will pay for decades”.
