Haaretz: The hostages are returning home as dead bodies
The Israeli Haaretz newspaper published an article in which it said that the worst thing that has happened so far is the killing of the three Israeli hostages at the hands of Israeli forces, after they survived ten weeks of being held captive by Hamas in Gaza.
The Israeli report explained that after this incident, the Netanyahu government cannot expect the families of the hostages to continue their support for the war that claimed the lives of some of them.
According to Haaretz report, this serious incident requires immediate learning of lessons and a change in approach, whether with regard to the priority of the hostage deal or the nature of the fighting in the Gaza Strip.
In light of this incident, the danger facing the hostages themselves due to the Israeli army attacks and the ongoing fighting cannot be overlooked, especially since the initial investigation demonstrated the lack of sufficient distinction between Hamas and civilians.
Haaretz report linked the incident that occurred in the Shujaiya neighborhood in Gaza to another previous incident in Jerusalem, when Israeli soldiers shot an Israeli civilian after they mistakenly thought he was the perpetrator of the attack, which prompted the Israeli army to decide that shooting anyone who raised his hands It’s prohibited.
The report used what a relative of a hostage in Gaza said, saying that hostages are returned to their families as dead bodies.
Haaretz added, “They die in air strikes and in failed operations aimed at rescuing them, and from the fire of our forces when they are able to escape”.
Haaretz concluded, “They’re trying to tell us that war helps the hostages, but it kills them”.
The Israeli government must place the return of the hostages at the top of its agenda, and to work to reach an agreement to release them.
