Haaretz: Hamas regrouped in northern Gaza
Haaretz newspaper said Saturday that Hamas has regrouped in the northern Gaza Strip, months after the Israeli army announced the disarmament of the movement there.
Haaretz quoted unnamed Israeli military officials as saying that after the withdrawal of troops from the Gaza Strip last month (April), Hamas reorganized itself in the northern point”.
“The Israeli army prepared to resume fighting with Hamas in the city of Jabaliya, months after announcing the disarming of the movement and the cessation of its presence as a military framework inside the city”.
“The IDF says that the lack of political action accompanying the fighting makes it difficult to capitalize on the military achievements of the war”.
The newspaper added that after the displacement of Jabaliya’s 150,000 residents, “forces who were preparing to work in Rafah will enter the city”.
Earlier on Saturday, the Israeli military said in a statement that it had directed residents of Jabaliya and nearby neighborhoods to temporarily go to shelters west of Gaza City “following Hamas’s attempts to regroup there”.
