Haaretz: Another soldier commit suicide due to psychological problems
Israeli Haaretz newspaper reported on Tuesday that an Israeli soldier committed suicide inside a military base, north of Israel, after he shot himself, raising the number of Israeli soldiers who have committed suicide since the beginning of the war of extermination to 61.
Haaretz said that the soldier, who is a trail and serves in the regular military service, was seriously wounded after shooting himself inside the base, before he was pronounced dead on Tuesday evening of his injuries.
Shortly before that, the Israeli army announced in a statement that a soldier was seriously injured by gunfire at a military base in northern Israel and was taken to hospital before he died, noting that military police had opened an investigation into the incident.
On October 28, an official Israeli report issued by the Knesset Research and Information Center revealed that 279 soldiers have attempted suicide since the beginning of 2024.
According to the report, these attempts were recorded between January 2024 and July 2025, at an average of 7 attempts for every completed suicide.
The report of the Military Medical Corps showed that 12% of the attempts were dangerous, while 88% were classified as moderately dangerous.
According to the data, 20 Israeli soldiers committed suicide in 2024, and 16 others from the beginning of this year until July, according to Haaretz, which indicated that since then, additional suicides of at least 4 soldiers have been recorded.
The Israeli army also announced the suicide of 7 soldiers on active duty from October 7, 2023 until the end of that year, bringing the number of soldiers who committed suicide during military service since the beginning of the war to 48.
These figures don’t include soldiers who committed suicide outside of military service, noting that at least 13 soldiers have committed suicide outside of service due to psychological problems, including 6 since the beginning of this year, raising the total number of suicides since the beginning of the war to 61.
Last October, Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir acknowledged during a speech that the mental health crisis within the army was worsening.
Thousands of soldiers are receiving psychological treatment, he said, calling on commanders to be vigilant and diagnose the phenomenon within the units, stressing the need not to hesitate to seek treatment.
Of the nearly 19,000 soldiers wounded since October 7, 2023, about 10,000 — more than half — suffer from psychological reactions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and are under the care of the Defense Department’s Rehabilitation Department, according to a previous broadcaster report published in late July.
