Germany: Polls reveal the majority of Germans support holding early parliamentary elections
The results of an opinion poll published Thursday revealed that the majority of Germans support holding early parliamentary elections in conjunction with the European Parliament elections that will be held in Germany on June 9.
The results of the poll conducted by the YouGov Institute for measuring opinion for the German News Agency, showed that 55% of those surveyed support a proposal in this regard that was put forward by the leader of the Bavarian Christian Social Party, Markus Söder, at the end of last November.
On the other hand, only 34% of those surveyed expressed their opposition to this proposal and believed that the German parliament elections should be held as scheduled in the fall of 2025.
The results showed that the desire to hold early elections recorded its highest level among supporters of the Alternative for Germany party, as the percentage of supporters of this proposal reached 88% among supporters of this right-wing populist party, and this percentage reached 66% among supporters of the Christian Union, which consists of the Christian Democratic Party, the younger brother is the Bavarian Christian Party, and this Christian Union leads the opposition in Germany.
The percentage of supporters of this proposal reached approximately two-thirds (65%) among supporters of the Free Democratic Party, a partner in the ruling coalition, and reached 39% among supporters of Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democratic Party, and 25% among supporters of the Green Party, also participating in the ruling coalition.
