German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Ukraine would pose the greatest threat to NATO and neighboring countries if it lost its war to Russia.

This came during an interview on the German public broadcaster ARD on Sunday, in which he affirmed that Germany will continue providing military aid to Ukraine even if the United States halts it.

Pistorius added, “This isn’t just about solidarity with Ukraine, but also about our security and safety in Europe”.

He added, “If Ukraine falls, and (Russian President Vladimir) Putin wins this war in a way that enables him to occupy Ukraine, or a large part of it, this poses the greatest threat to NATO territory, and to neighboring countries such as Moldova and Georgia”.

It’s noteworthy that Germany ranks second after the United States among countries providing political, financial, military, and humanitarian support to Ukraine.

Since the beginning of the war, Germany has provided Ukraine with €44 billion in humanitarian aid, direct payments, or arms supplies, according to German government spokesman Steffen Hebsterreit in February.

According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) report on global military expenditures for 2024, Germany is among the countries with the highest military spending in the world, with expenditures amounting to $88.5 billion last year.
