Foreign Policy: 3 Steps Trump has taken that Indicates what his foreign policy will look like
A report in Foreign Policy magazine reviewed the first three steps taken by President-elect Donald Trump regarding US foreign policy, which showed his tendency to support Israel and his desire to end wars in the Middle East and Europe.
Trump has already begun laying the foundations for his international agenda, even though he has 70 days left in office, said Alexandra Sharp, the weekly magazine’s world news columnist.
Trump on Monday nominated upstate New York congresswoman Elise Stefanik to be the country’s ambassador to the United Nations.
Stefanik is known for her frequent criticism of the organization, claiming its anti-Semitic and biased against Israel, the report said.
In October, Stefanik called for a complete reassessment of US funding for the UN, and thus, Trump’s decision as a clear sign that the next administration would be a fierce supporter of Israel internationally.
Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had three phone conversations in the past week alone.
The talks began after the US election results were announced, and Netanyahu stated that he and Trump share the same views on the danger posed by Iran.
Although Trump stressed the need to end the war, he also expressed support for Israel’s military goals of achieving total victory, and expressed concern that a truce would allow Hamas to reunite, so it’s unclear whether the next administration intends to mediate ceasefire talks, the report said.
The report said that Trump spoke last Wednesday, accompanied by billionaire Elon Musk, to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and then the Washington Post reported on Sunday that Trump had a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the Kremlin denied this as fiction and that there are no official plans yet to communicate with the winning Republican candidate.
Trump has repeatedly expressed his ability to end the Russian-Ukrainian war within 24 hours of taking office.
These steps, according to the report, indicate his intention to end the conflict as soon as possible.
