French Trade Minister Franck Riester warned Saturday that the next European Council will consider the issue of Turkey and may impose restrictions on it because of its “unacceptable” behavior in Nagorno Karabakh.

During an interview with “France Inter” radio, Rester criticized Ankara’s position on calls for a boycott of French products in some Islamic countries against the background of the controversy over the caricatures of the Islam Prophet Muhammad.

He said, “Turkey is playing a shameful role by exploiting the speech of the President of the Republic or the positions of France in order to harm France and the values that France holds”.

“We want Turkey to change and change its expansionist behavior in the eastern Mediterranean, with the exploration operations that undermine the sovereignty of Cyprus and Greece,” he added.

Rester also called on Turkey to “stop this behavior, especially in North Africa where weapons are smuggled” and “to stop using the issue of immigration against Europe, we know very well that it is playing on that chord and this is no longer possible”.

He added, “Turkey is a great people, a great country.

We want diplomatic and economic relations between us, but we must establish a dialogue with it based on frankness because we cannot continue in this manner”.

He pointed out that “this is the rhetoric carried by Europe, not just France, and this is the reason that once again in the next European Council, the Turkish issue will be addressed to see how we can increase the pressure on it a little more or even much more, because Turkey’s behavior, especially in What is related to the Nagorno Karabakh crisis is unacceptable”.

After a series of disagreements, the European Union condemned “unacceptable” provocations by Ankara at the end of October, but postponed to its December summit any decision on possible sanctions.
