DPA: Crisis in Germany due to rising heating costs

Heating costs for gas customers in Germany have risen by about a quarter compared to the previous heating season, according to an analysis by comparison site Verifox.
According to the analysis, the cost of gas heating in Germany rose by about 23% due to weather and price factors, while the cost of oil heating also rose by 1%.
In contrast, data from the Heats All 24 portal, which specializes in oil heating services, showed that costs for oil customers remained the same or perhaps decreased slightly, according to the German news agency, DPA.
According to an analysis by energy services company Techem, average heating consumption of oil, natural gas, and district heating technologies across Germany increased by an average of 23.6% compared to the previous year.
Techem CEO Matthias Hartmann said that efforts to reduce energy consumption in recent years have slowed, adding, “If energy prices remain high, many consumers will face an additional burden in their upcoming heating bills”.
According to a study conducted by the German Energy and Water Industry Association, nearly three-quarters of home heating systems in Germany use gas and oil as an energy source.
