As positive signs loom regarding Hamas’s acceptance of a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, more details are emerging about the Gaza agreement, which includes a 60-day ceasefire.

The deal proposes a schedule for the release of 10 living Israeli prisoners in exchange for 1,000 Palestinian prisoners.

The details of the US proposal are as follows: The release of 10 living Israeli prisoners and 15 bodies of Israeli prisoners, with Hamas determining the identities of those released.

The dead Israeli prisoners will be released in three separate batches over a 60-day period.

The prisoner exchanges will take place without celebrations or parades.

In return, at least 1,000 Palestinian prisoners will be released, including more than 100 serving life sentences.

The proposal stipulates that tens of thousands of trucks loaded with aid will enter the Gaza Strip during the ceasefire period.

Israel won’t, at this time, give up the continued operation of aid distribution centers in the southern Gaza Strip.

According to the proposal, after the release of eight prisoners, the Israeli army will withdraw from areas in northern Gaza, according to agreed-upon maps.

An Israeli withdrawal from areas in the south will also take place on the seventh day, according to agreed-upon maps.

Technical teams will work to define the withdrawal boundaries during rapid negotiations to be held after agreement on the general framework of the proposal.

Negotiations to end the war may continue after the end of the ceasefire period (60 days), as long as they are conducted in good faith.

The United States will be a guarantor of the implementation of this provision, while there is no Israeli commitment to end the war.

With the agreement entering into force, negotiations will begin on a permanent ceasefire, addressing four main points:

  • Exchange of the remaining prisoners.
  • Long-term security arrangements in Gaza.
  • Next day following the end of the war arrangements in the sector.
  • Declaring a permanent ceasefire.

On the tenth day, Hamas will provide all information and evidence about the remaining hostages, whether they are alive or dead, along with medical reports.

In return, Israel will provide full information on Palestinian prisoners arrested from Gaza since October 7, 2023.

The mediators, the United States, Egypt, and Qatar will provide guarantees that serious negotiations will take place during the truce period.

As for the points of contention that still exist, they are, according to what was reported by Israeli media: Demanding that Hamas make a clear commitment to ending the war, which is expected to come in an agreed-upon form to be announced by US envoy Steve Witkoff, and also an official announcement by the US president of the agreement.

Israel’s opposition to the release of some Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails.

Hamas’ demand that Israel withdraw to positions held before the collapse of the first ceasefire agreement on March 18.

Adding arrangements for the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, Israel insists on the continued presence of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, while Hamas demands that aid be distributed through United Nations agencies.

Hamas has given a positive response to mediators’ proposal for a 60-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also announced that Israel had approved the deal and was awaiting Hamas’ response.

US President Donald Trump announced last Tuesday in a post on Truth Social that Israel had agreed to the terms necessary for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, indicating that mediators would present a final proposal.

He added, “I hope Hamas accepts this agreement because things won’t get better, they will get worse”.
