The Daily Mail newspaper, reported that former US President Donald Trump may be able to remain in power until 2037, taking advantage of a “clear loophole” in the US Constitution, which could pave the way for him to serve a third and possibly fourth term.

According to the Twenty-Second Amendment to the US Constitution, which limits presidential terms to two, includes a legal loophole that could circumvent this limit, making the scenario of Trump remaining in the White House until he turns 90 not only possible, but easy.

The legal controversy revolves around the fact that this amendment only prevents the same person from being elected to the office of president for more than two terms, but doesn’t prevent them from returning to the office through other paths, such as serving as vice president and then ascending to the presidency again after the resignation or death of the president-elect.

The Daily Mail noted the possibility that Trump might run for vice president in the future alongside a presidential candidate such as J.D. Vance or another prominent figure, and if the pair win the election, the president could subsequently resign, allowing Trump to assume the presidency again.

If Trump were to run for a fourth term, he would simply need to resign before the 2032 election and then run again as vice president as part of a new presidential team.

It’s worth noting that the Twenty-Second Amendment was passed in 1951 in response to President Franklin Roosevelt’s four-term tenure, as he was the only president in US history to serve more than two terms, including two terms during World War II.
