Coronavirus around the world: infections are close to 2.5 million, deaths exceeding 170,000, and the World Health Organization warns of neglecting other medical services in light of the virus crisis

The United States leads the world in terms of the number of injuries and deaths, followed by injuries, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Iran, China, Russia and Brazil.

The number of cases in the United States amounted to 793 thousand cases, in addition to about 42 thousand and 500 deaths, and Spain recorded about 200 thousand injuries and about 21 thousand deaths.

Italy recorded about 181 thousand injuries and about 24 thousand deaths.

As for China, the first focus of the virus, it recorded 82,758 infections and 4,632 deaths.

In the same context, the World Health Organization warned today, Tuesday, the countries of the Asia-Pacific region against ignoring other medical services in light of the outbreak of the Coronavirus, indicating that the region may face a new crisis if no attention is paid to other diseases.

Takeshi Kasai, WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific region, said tackling the Coronavirus should not stop other health services such as vaccination and treatment of chronic and acute diseases affecting millions in the region.

“If we allow the Coronavirus to block vaccination programs, our region will face a new crisis while health systems are already facing pressure,” he told a news conference at the WHO headquarters in Manila.

In the event that vaccination rates drop, Kasai said, infectious diseases that have long been under control or will increase, indicating new polio cases and measles outbreaks in various countries of the region last year.

“We cannot leave the face of the Coronavirus, which endangers the lives of citizens by undermining other health services,” Kasai said.

Kasai also called on the Asia Pacific region government not to compromise efforts to contain the Coronavirus, and to work on developing long-term strategies that balance the protection of citizens ’health and the return of economic and social life.
