Democrats won a major victory in mid-term US elections by taking control of the House of Representatives while Republicans retained the majority in the Senate.
The Democratic Party regained the majority in the House of Representatives for the first time since 2010, while Republicans retained the majority in the Senate.
Democrats have so far secured 223 seats, and Republicans have won 197 seats out of a total of 435 seats, with 15 seats still to be announced.
In the Senate, Republicans have won 51 seats and Democrats have 44 seats and two seats for other parties out of the total 100 seats.
