Commander of the Syria Democratic Forces thanks Russia for defusing the war and spare the Kurds of Syria “ravages” and expresses his reservation on some items of the agreement
The leader of the Syria Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, in a telephone conversation with Russian Defense Minister on Wednesday thanked Moscow for its agreement with Ankara on the withdrawal of its forces from northeastern Syria, which “defuse the war” and “spare civilians and its scourge”.
The General Command of the Syria Democratic Forces said in a statement that Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu and Chief of Staff of the Russian Army Valery Gerasimov made a televised call to Abdi during which he thanked Moscow for its work to “defuse the war in our regions and spare civilians and its ravages”, expressing at the same time.
His reservation on some of the terms of the agreement, which require discussions and dialogues in order to bring the views closer”.
On the other hand, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that there is no need to establish a safe area under international protection in northern Syria, and that the Russian-Turkish agreement reached in the city of Sochi, is the solution in the region.
This came in the words of Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin, on Wednesday, in a statement to the agency “RIA Novosti” on the recent Russian-Turkish agreement on the eastern Euphrates region in Syria.
“We don’t see the need for a secure zone under international protection in northeastern Syria, and the Russian-Turkish agreement in Sochi is the solution”, Vershinin said.
On Monday, German Defense Minister Angeregt Kramp Karrenbauer proposed the creation of a safe zone under international control in northern Syria.
She stated that the situation in Syria had seriously affected the security interests of Europe and Germany, and acknowledged that they had taken a “bystander” position so far on the situation there.
On Tuesday, Sochi hosted a Turkish-Russian summit, which ended with an agreement on the withdrawal of the organization “YPK” with weapons from the Turkish border to a distance of 30 km within 150 hours.
