Casualties and widespread destruction after a violent Russian strikes targeting several areas in the Ukrainian capital

At least five people were killed and around 20 wounded in Russian drone and missile strikes on Kyiv and its surroundings overnight, Ukrainian authorities announced Monday.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Igor Klymenko said via Telegram that in the Shevshkivsky district in the west of the capital, “an entire part of a multi-story residential building was destroyed… Four people have been killed so far, and paramedics have provided assistance to ten wounded”.

He also noted that one person was killed and about ten wounded in strikes on Bila Tserkva, south of Kyiv.

Kyiv’s military chief, Timur Tkachenko, reported that several people were also injured near a metro exit where people were taking shelter in the Svyatoshinsky district in the west of the capital.

For his part, Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klymenko condemned, via Telegram, the Russian forces’ strikes on residential areas, hospitals, and sports facilities…without regard for civilian infrastructure.
