The Israeli army admitted on Friday that it had shot at Syrian demonstrators, wounding one of them in the village of Ma’araba in the Daraa countryside, in the south of the country.

The Israeli army said in a statement, “During a demonstration against the activities of our forces in the village of Ma’araba in southern Syria, gunfire was fired to disperse it”.

The statement added, “A demonstrator was injured in the leg as a result”.

The Israeli army claimed in the statement, “We don’t interfere in what is happening in Syria, but we will continue to work to protect the citizens of Israel.”

Earlier on Friday, Syrian platforms broadcast footage showing a young man being shot during a demonstration denouncing the deployment of Israeli army forces in the Jazeera barracks west of the village of Ma’araba in Daraa Governorate.

On Friday Israel army occupied two villages in the Yarmouk Basin in Daraa Governorate in southern Syria, after the fall of Bashar al Assad’s regime.

Taking advantage of the Syrian factions’ overthrow of the Assad regime, Israel has intensified its air strikes in recent days, targeting military sites in various parts of the country, in a blatant violation of its sovereignty.

Israel also announced the collapse of the 1974 disengagement agreement with Syria, and the deployment of its army in the demilitarized buffer zone in the Syrian Golan Heights, most of whose area it has occupied since 1967, and in Mount Hermon, and then penetrated the countryside of Daraa, in a move condemned by the United Nations and Arab countries.

Following the fall of the Baath regime in Syria, Israel’s attacks on the country increased, destroying the military

infrastructure and remaining facilities of the regime’s army and expanding the occupation of the Golan Heights.
