Global wheat markets are facing an escalating crisis with the start of the harvest season in Russia, Ukraine, and the European Union.

This is due to an unprecedented slowdown in production, leading to a decline in exports and a significant increase in prices.

Russia, the world’s largest wheat exporter, has reduced its shipments by 30%, while Ukraine’s exports have fallen to a third of their usual levels.

The European Union has also recorded a significant decline, while France has lost its leading export position to Romania.

According to experts, this decline is due to key factors, most notably: harsh weather conditions affecting crop quality; delayed harvest dates in many regions; and farmers resorting to storing crops instead of exporting them, reducing global supply.

These developments portend widespread disruptions to global food supply chains, especially for countries that rely heavily on wheat imports.

This could lead to a global food price crisis if climate and political challenges persist.
