The Israeli cabinet will meet on Sunday to discuss developments regarding the ceasefire in Lebanon
The Israeli Security Cabinet will meet on Sunday evening, chaired by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Israeli Channel 12 reported that members of the Cabinet have been summoned to a meeting next Sunday evening.
The channel did not mention the meeting’s agenda, but this comes after US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday evening that a temporary 10-day ceasefire had been reached between Israel and Lebanon.
For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Friday that Israel hasn’t yet finished its mission in its war against Hezbollah, pledging to continue working to disarm the pro-Iranian party, just hours after the ceasefire in Lebanon came into effect.
Netanyahu said that “Hezbollah today is but a shadow of what it once was, compared to its glory days under Hassan Nasrallah,” referring to the party’s former secretary-general who was killed by Israel in 2024.
Netanyahu added, “We’ve not finished the mission yet… There are measures we intend to take to counter the remaining threat of missiles and drones,” stressing that disarming Hezbollah remains a key objective.
He stressed that “dismantling Hezbollah won’t happen overnight, noting that it will require “continuous effort, patience and perseverance, along with skill in diplomatic maneuvering”.
The ceasefire came into effect at dawn on Friday, following a large-scale Israeli offensive on Lebanon that lasted since March 2, which resulted in thousands of casualties, and caused the displacement of hundreds of thousands.
Trump also announced that he would invite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to negotiations between the two countries, without specifying a date.
The Times of Israel quoted an unnamed Israeli official as saying that contacts had begun regarding a visit by Netanyahu to the White House to meet with President Trump.
The official explained that the visit would not take place before Israel’s Independence Day, which falls on next Wednesday.
The website stated that Trump later clarified that the meeting would most likely take place within the next week or two.
