Hezbollah: Our hands are on the trigger if Israel violates the ceasefire
Hezbollah announced in a statement on Friday that its fighters’ hands would remain on the trigger in the event that Israel violated the ceasefire agreement, which came into effect at midnight Thursday-Friday, hours after it was announced by US President Donald Trump.
In a statement, the party counted that its fighters had carried out 2,184 different military operations since the start of the war on March 2, targeting Israeli towns and sites and troop movements in border towns inside Lebanon, adding, “These mujahideen will keep their hands on the trigger, anticipating the enemy’s treachery and breach” of the agreement that stipulated a ten-day truce.
For his part, US President Donald Trump expressed his hope that Hezbollah would behave well after the temporary ceasefire in Lebanon came into effect for 10 days.
This was stated in a post on Truth Social on Thursday, as Trump said, “I hope Hezbollah behaves well during this important period,” adding, “It would be a great moment for them if they did so, and no more killing… Peace must finally be achieved”.
In another post, Trump said: “This could be a historic day for Lebanon and good things are happening”.
On Thursday evening, Trump announced a 10-day ceasefire in Lebanon, effective from midnight Thursday/Friday, Tel Aviv and Beirut time, following telephone talks with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Since March 2, Israel has been waging an aggression against Lebanon that has left 2,196 killed, 7,185 wounded, and more than one million displaced, according to the latest official data.
On March 9, Aoun announced an initiative that included a truce to stop Israeli attacks, the start of direct negotiations with Israel under international auspices, the provision of necessary logistical support to the Lebanese army, and the confiscation of Hezbollah’s weapons, which the latter rejects.
The Lebanese government is adopting a plan to disarm Hezbollah, which is clinging to its weapons and insisting that it is a resistance movement against Israel, which occupies areas in southern Lebanon, some for decades and others during the 2023-2024 war.
In October 2023, Israel launched a war on Lebanon, and a ceasefire was declared in November of the following year, but Tel Aviv continued to violate it daily, and then expanded its aggression on March 2nd.
