US officials said that Iran still possesses thousands of ballistic missiles in its arsenal that can be used by bringing the launch platforms out of their underground storage facilities.

The Wall Street Journal reported that, despite US War Secretary Pete Hegseth’s statement that “Iran’s missile program has effectively collapsed,” along with similar statements from other high-ranking US officials, other US officials confirmed that Tehran still possesses thousands of ballistic missiles capable of operating by moving launch pads from underground facilities.

US officials, who preferred to remain anonymous, added that more than half of Iran’s missile launch platforms have been destroyed, damaged, or are stuck underground, but most of the remaining platforms can be repaired or removed from underground facilities and reused.

Israeli officials had previously stated that Iran still possessed more than 1,000 missiles out of the approximately 2,500 medium-range missiles it had at the beginning of the war.

Israeli officials also noted that the number of suicide drones possessed by Iran has decreased by 50% compared to the beginning of the war, while pointing to the possibility that Iran might obtain similar systems from Russia.

For its part, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) declined to comment on the issue.
