The Kremlin on Tuesday declined to comment on whether the United States had warned Moscow against sharing intelligence with Iran as the war in the Middle East enters its 11th day.

The United States and Israel began airstrikes on Iran on February 28, prompting Tehran to respond with retaliatory strikes across the Gulf.

The Washington Post reported Friday that Moscow had leaked sensitive intelligence to Tehran, including sites of US warships and aircraft in the region.

US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said on Saturday that he had urged Russia not to share information with Tehran.

US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin had touched on the issue in their phone call on Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov replied: “All I can say is that Witkoff is in constant contact with his Russian counterparts, and this channel of communication allows us to exchange information on the most sensitive issues”.

Witkoff revealed later Tuesday in an interview with CNBC that in the call between Trump and Putin, “the Russians said they didn’t share intelligence… We can take their word for it,” Witkoff added.

Trump said on Saturday that he had no indications that Russia was supporting Iran in the war, but said even if it were, it doesn’t do much good.
