US President Donald Trump said Monday that the final decision to halt attacks on Iran will be timely and in consultation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

This came in a phone interview with the Israel of Times newspaper, after Iran officially announced the selection of Mojtaba Khamenei, the country’s new leader, to succeed his father Ali Khamenei, who was assassinated in a US-Israeli airstrike a few days ago.

He added that there was no timetable yet on stopping US-Israeli attacks on Iran.

He said he would make the decision to halt the attacks at the right time and taking into account all factors, adding, “I’ll make the final decision myself, but I will also consult with Netanyahu”.

The US president claimed that Iran would have wiped out Israel and its environs if Washington and Tel Aviv hadn’t launched attacks on it in February.

He noted that Washington and Tel Aviv worked together and eliminated a country that wanted to eliminate Israel.

Asked whether Israel would continue its attacks on Iran even after the US decision to halt the war, Trump said he believed that should continue.

While Trump declined to give a date for the duration of the attacks on Iran, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said Friday that Washington expects the war to last between four and six weeks.
