The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) today announced the success of a test launch of a new naval version of the Sayyad 3G missile, during its navy’s smart control maneuvers in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

The new missile, which was launched for the first time operationally from the Shahid Mahdavi ship, is characterized by its vertical launch capability, allowing it to engage air targets from all directions without the need for the ship to change course.

It has a speed of 6,700 kilometers per hour, which is equivalent to 5.5 times the speed of sound, and has an effective range of 150 kilometers, with the ability to fly at an altitude of up to 30 kilometers.

According to Iranian media, the system represents a paradigm shift in the Iranian navy’s defense capabilities, transforming warships into mobile air defense fortresses capable of providing air cover for an entire fleet with a diameter of 300 kilometers.

The missile operates within a unified command network air defense system, enhancing coordination between the various naval units.

The announcement of the new missile sparked a wave of interaction on social media, with comments divided between optimistic about Iran’s defense capabilities and skeptical of the credibility of the posted footage.

This missile will strengthen Iran’s defense system and add a new operational dimension to its capabilities.

Its noteworthy that this is the first time in Iran’s history that a long-range air defense system has used a maritime platform that operates with vertical launch technology, in a move that Tehran described as a show of force to hostile countries in the region.
