Zelensky: We wait for Russian response to the peace plan and we’ll hold elections after signing the peace agreement with Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he hoped to get a response from Moscow on Wednesday on the latest draft of a plan to end the war agreed with the United States.
“We’ll get the Russian response after the American side talks to them,” Zelensky told reporters, in remarks published on Wednesday, detailing the 20-point plan, which was agreed during talks between US and Ukrainian officials in Miami over the weekend.
The Ukrainian president revealed that the new proposal to end the war, negotiated by Kyiv and Washington, doesn’t oblige Kyiv to formally abandon its bid to join NATO.
“Whether or not Ukraine joins is the choice of NATO members… We made our choice. We’ve moved away from proposed amendments to Ukraine’s constitution that would have prevented Ukraine from joining NATO,” he said, referring to an earlier plan drafted by the United States that legally obligated Kyiv not to join the military bloc.
