Ousted Guinean President Amr Sissoco Embalo arrived in Rabat on Wednesday to seek political asylum, more than a week after he was ousted by the military.

Embalo, who was ousted on November 26, arrived in Morocco on a private flight with a number of his close aides, and he is expected to stay there indefinitely, and later he will travel to Portugal.

Morocco is the third destination for former Guinean President since his ouster, after Congo-Brazzaville and Senegal, where he lived for a short time, while the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) stresses the need to restore constitutional order in the West African country.

Nigeria announced last Monday that it had granted political asylum to the Guinean opposition Fernando Dias, who had earlier declared victory in the November 23 elections, and considered the coup against Embalo”artificial”.

Guinea-Bissau’s National Electoral Commission (NEC) executive secretary Idrissa Jallou said on Tuesday that the commission was unable to publish the election results because of gunmen destroying vote counting records, electoral tools and results reports.

The announcement came a day after an ECOWAS delegation visited Bissau, calling on the electoral commission to complete the electoral process and publish the results.
