Israel’s District Court in Jerusalem canceled a session scheduled for Monday as part of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s trial in corruption cases, after approving a petition filed by the latter under the pretext of “urgent political meetings”.

On Sunday the court responded to Netanyahu’s request after he filed a petition to cancel the session due to emergency political meetings, without clarifying what they were.

It’s worth mentioning, similar decisions were made before when sessions were canceled due to the prime minister’s political affiliations.

Netanyahu was supposed to testify three times a week starting in November, but this hasn’t been achieved so far, as several sessions have been canceled during the past period.

At last month’s hearing, Netanyahu said he was having difficulty managing his government duties in parallel with the trial, adding that he was “making redoubled efforts” to reconcile his position as prime minister with his appearance in court.

Netanyahu has previously avoided appearing in court, allegedly traveling, or preoccupied with developments in Israel’s war in the Gaza Strip over the past two years.

Netanyahu faces charges of corruption, bribery and dishonesty in three cases that would require him to be jailed if convicted, while he refuses to admit to any of them.
