Russia announces interception of 193 Ukrainian drones overnight
The Russian Defense Ministry announced Monday morning that it had intercepted 193 Ukrainian drones overnight, while local authorities reported one death in the attack.
The governor of the Bryansk region bordering Ukraine, Alexander Bogomaz, reported on Telegram on Monday morning that a minibus driver was killed and five passengers were injured in the village of Bugar.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that 47 drones were shot down over Bryansk and 40 over the Moscow region, most of which were heading toward the capital.
Since launching its war on Ukraine three and a half years ago, Russia has been carrying out near-daily drone and missile attacks on Ukraine, which has responded by targeting Russian territory.
Kyiv is intensifying its strikes, particularly targeting Russian energy facilities.
On the diplomatic front, US President Donald Trump said Saturday that he wouldn’t waste his time arranging a new meeting with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, unless the latter demonstrated seriousness about reaching an agreement to end the war in Ukraine.
For its part, Russia on Sunday denounced attempts to undermine its constructive dialogue with the United States.
Trump also deemed Putin’s announcement of a nuclear-powered cruise missile test inappropriate.
“He should end the war in Ukraine… A war that was supposed to last only a week is now approaching its fourth year… That’s what he should be doing instead of testing missiles,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.
