US President Donald Trump claimed he had no prior knowledge of the Israeli attack on Qatar last week, indicating that it would not be repeated.

In press statements at the White House on Monday evening, Trump described Qatar as a “very good ally” of his country.

Last Tuesday, Israel launched an airstrike on Doha in an attempt to assassinate Hamas leaders, and subsequently vowed to attack the Palestinian movement’s leaders everywhere.

The US President stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would resort to “other measures” to pursue Hamas leaders, but he would not attack Qatar again, he said.

Trump said he had no prior knowledge of the Israeli airstrike on Doha last Tuesday, which targeted Hamas leaders.

US officials stated that they learned of the attack the moment they saw the missiles in the sky, and that they requested clarifications from Israel regarding the attack.

However, the US statements contradict what Axios website reported, citing anonymous Israeli officials, that the United States had prior knowledge of the attack.

According to the same source, Netanyahu informed Trump of the attack in a phone call at 8:00 US eastern time, while the attack occurred at 8:51.

Qatar condemned the Israeli attack, describing it as “state of terrorism,” and affirmed its right to respond to the aggression, which resulted in the death of an internal security force member.

Meanwhile, Hamas announced that its negotiating delegation, led by its head in Gaza, Khalil al Hayya, survived an assassination attempt, which killed his office director, Jihad Labad, his son, Humam al Hayya, and three companions.

The attack on Qatar came despite its mediation role, alongside Egypt and with US participation, in indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel aimed at reaching a prisoner exchange agreement and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
