Senior Syrian officials said in closed-door talks that direct dialogue with Israel has been taking place daily in recent days.

A Syrian source stated that Syria doesn’t rule out the possibility of reaching a peace agreement with Israel before the end of US President Trump’s term.

About a week ago, news broke that Syria, while unwilling to intervene in the war between Israel and Iran, didn’t object to Israel’s thwarting of Iranian attacks in Syrian airspace, which it did.

Similarly, the Syrian government, headed by Ahmed al Sharaa, didn’t condemn the Israeli attack on Iran at all, but it strongly condemned the Iranian attack on the US base in Qatar.

From his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked the Americans to mediate negotiations with Syria, according to Axios.

Netanyahu is also reportedly interested in negotiating a security agreement as a midpoint on the way to a comprehensive peace agreement, according to a senior Israeli source.

Israeli officials confirmed to Axios that Israel has opened talks with the legitimate government, initially indirectly through correspondence via other countries, and later directly through secret meetings in foreign countries.
