Syrian President: We’re conducting indirect negotiations with Israel to stop its attacks
Syrian transitional President Ahmed al Sharaa revealed that Damascus is conducting indirect negotiations with Israel through international mediators, aiming to put an end to repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, according to the official news agency SANA.
Sharaa’s remarks came during his meeting with a delegation of dignitaries and residents of Quneitra and the Golan Heights governorates, where the meeting addressed the service, living conditions, and security situation in the region.
The Syrian president listened to residents’ complaints about the repeated Israeli incursions into Quneitra and the Golan Heights, stressing that the government seeks to stop these attacks through indirect negotiation channels with international parties.
This statement coincides with a report published by the Israeli website “Israel Hayom,” (Israel Today) quoting the head of the Israeli National Security Council, Tzachi Hanegbi, who indicated that Tel Aviv is conducting daily direct dialogue with the Syrian government to discuss the possibility of normalizing relations between the two sides.
Hanegbi explained that this dialogue isn’t limited to the military aspect, but also includes political channels, indicating intensive diplomatic efforts behind the scenes that may reshape the relationship between the two sides in the coming period.
