CBS News revealed on Wednesday that US administration officials have received intelligence indicating that Israel is preparing to launch a military operation against Iran, a move that could lead to a dangerous escalation in the region.

The American channel quoted informed sources as saying, “The United States is fully aware that Israel has completed its preparations for a potential attack,” without specifying who provided this information.

CBS reported that Washington expects Iranian retaliation targeting American facilities inside Iraq if Israel carries out its attack, prompting the US State Department to instruct some US embassy employees in Baghdad to leave Iraq as a precaution.

Despite the tense atmosphere, CBS reported that US Special Envoy Steven Witkoff still intends to hold a new round of talks with Iranian representatives regarding Iran’s nuclear program, in an attempt to calm tensions and maintain the diplomatic track.

In the same context, the US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth had approved the voluntary evacuation of US military families from some of their locations in the Middle East due to increased security risks.

The US State Department also confirmed that the decision to evacuate some embassy staff in Iraq was due to rising regional tensions, while US President Donald Trump commented on the issue by saying, “We’re evacuating them because this place could become dangerous… We’ll see what happens”.

Trump reiterated his hardline stance toward Iran, saying in media statements, “We cannot allow Tehran to obtain a nuclear weapon… It’s clear and simple… We’ll not allow that under any circumstances”.

During a phone call on June 9, Trump warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against launching any military strike against Iran at this time, especially as negotiations over the Iranian nuclear issue continue.

In response, Iranian Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh warned that his country would respond forcefully if attacked by the United States, noting that all US military bases in the Middle East would be targets of Iranian retaliation.

These developments come amid growing international concern about the outbreak of an open conflict between Israel and Iran, particularly given the stalemate in nuclear negotiations and the absence of clear indications of an imminent political breakthrough.
