Erdoğan expresses to Putin the important for Russia and Türkiye’s cooperation to achieve lasting stability in Syria
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stressed the importance of his country and Russia working together to achieve lasting peace and stability in Syria based on its territorial integrity.
This came in a phone call with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on Friday, according to a post by the Turkish presidency on X.
The Turkish presidency explained that the two leaders discussed Turkish-Russian relations and regional and global issues during the call.
President Erdoğan stated that Ankara attaches importance to cooperation with Moscow regarding Syria.
He stressed the possibility of Türkiye and Russia working together to eliminate efforts that fuel ethnic and sectarian discrimination aimed at undermining Syria’s unity.
He also pointed to the possibility of cooperation regarding the complete lifting of sanctions imposed on Syria.
The Turkish presidnet emphasized the need to leave Syria’s resources to the Syrian administration, and affirmed that Türkiye supports the integration of the Syria Democratic Forces within the central administration.
He pointed out that completely removing Syria from being a suitable place for terrorist organizations is of great importance for Syria’s stability.
