Le Diplomate: Who is actually ruling the United States?
The French Le Diplomate website reported that real power in the United States isn’t concentrated in the hands of the president alone, but that federal institutions, especially the bureaucratic, security and military apparatuses, play a major role in directing US policy.
The report, explained that the US “imperial authority” isn’t limited to the White House, even with the support of the majority of Congress, but rather the broad federal administration controls the course of the country, ensuring the continuation of US hegemony at the strategic level.
The report pointed out that the election of the president is considered an important milestone in the American imperialist path, but in reality, it doesn’t bring about radical changes in the country’s political approach, but rather represents a change in representation and political image.
It also explained that the president’s influence on US public policies may be exaggerated.
The Pentagon is the world’s largest employer, employing about three million people, not counting covert workers or contractors, the report added.
The US intelligence community is made up of 17 agencies, including the CIA, which often have different orientations and compete with each other.
The report also stated that the US federal network includes more than five million employees, including thousands of government officials and technical experts who are responsible for managing geographic areas around the world.
The report stressed that regardless of the identity of the president or the orientation of the majority in Congress, the huge federal administration ensures the continuity of American imperial policy, especially by controlling the world’s seas and preventing geopolitical alliances between Germany, Russia and China.
The report also addressed the impact of internal challenges on the United States, such as the huge trade deficit and the influx of immigrants, noting that these factors affect US society and contribute to creating a sense of discontent among the dominant race.
In this context, the report considered that the campaign of former US President Donald Trump, which focused on re-industrialization and reducing immigration, represents an expression of this discontent.
Although Trump tried to reduce the influence of the federal state, the bureaucratic apparatus was an obstacle to implementing many of his policies.
The report discussed the impact of recent events, such as the attempted coup on January 6, 2021, on US policy, noting that President Joe Biden’s administration continued the Obama administration’s trend of reducing US intervention in some strategic regions such as the Middle East, with a focus on more important regions such as Eastern Europe.
Ultimately, the report concludes that US’s geopolitical shifts are based on long-term strategies that are difficult to change, even with a change of presidents or political majorities in Congress.
