Israel is working hard to determine the burial place of the famous Israeli spy Eli Cohen, who was executed in Damascus in 1965, as the possibility to find him came up big, following the fall of the regime in Syria.

Diplomatic sources revealed that Tel Aviv has begun contacts with external parties and Syrians in an attempt to reach the burial place of Eli Cohen.

Cohen entered Syria as a businessman named Kamel Amin Thabet, and that he was from a Syrian family that had immigrated to Argentina.

His influence extended to relationships with political and military officials in high positions in the state before he was discovered and then executed in Marjeh Square in central Damascus on May 18, 1965.

The Syrian authorities concealed his burial place and Damascus rejected all mediations to exchange him for Arab prisoners.

On the other hand, Tel Aviv is also seeking to communicate with elements who worked with the Palestinian factions in search of the body of one of three soldiers who went missing in the Battle of Sultan Yacoub in the Bekaa Valley during the invasion in 1982.

According to the same source, Israel is interested in the file of “Jewish antiquities in Syria,” as Tel Aviv says that half of the Jewish sites in Syria have been destroyed, and a group of ancient Torah manuscripts and other artifacts have disappeared, some of which have appeared in Türkiye.

Archaeologists in Israel have expressed concern about the ruins of Roman-era Jewish temples in ancient cities such as Apamea and Dura Europos.
