Trump commenting on Syria and the situation there
US President-elect Donald Trump commented for the first time on the events taking place in Syria.
The opposition fighters in Syria, in an unprecedented move, have taken over several cities in a highly coordinated attack, and are now on the outskirts of Damascus, and are apparently preparing to take a very large step toward overthrowing Assad,” Trump said on his Truth social network.
“Russia, preoccupied with Ukraine and with the loss of more than 600,000 soldiers there, seems powerless to stop this advance through Syria, a country that has protected its regime for years,” he added.
He continued, “In Syria, former President Obama refused to fulfill his commitment to the red line he drew in the sand, and hell broke loose there, and Russia also intervened, but now they are being forced out – like Assad himself”.
“This may actually be the best thing that could have happened to them,” he continued, “There wasn’t much benefit in Syria for Russia, other than making Obama look really stupid”.
Trump concluded, “In any case, Syria is chaotic, it’s not our friend, and the United States should have nothing to do with it… This is not our fight, and we shouldn’t get involved in what is happening”.
