High sense of responsibility… after the shameful collapse and fall of Aleppo province and other areas into the hands of the Syrian opposition… Iranian Foreign Minister enjoys eating shawarma in Damascus!
It seems to be, and despite the horrible situation, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s visit to Damascus wasn’t limited to meeting with Syrian President Bashar al Assad and discussing the latest developments in northern Syria, after the surprise attack and the resounding collapse of the Syrian government forces, the opposition was able to control vast areas of northern Syria, including the city of Aleppo and most of its countryside.
The Iranian Foreign Minister also included an unexpected visit to a restaurant in the Syrian capital!
Araghchi accompanied his Syrian counterpart, Bassam Sabbagh, to a famous restaurant in Damascus, where they were accompanied by the Iranian delegation, before leaving for Ankara.
The visit of Iranian officials to the restaurant generated widespread interest, with photos documenting the tour circulating on social media.
In a post on the X platform in Arabic, Araghchi commented, “An unforgettable night in Damascus,” and attached the post with pictures from the visit.
He added in the post, “After an important meeting with the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, we had a meal at a restaurant in the Mezzeh area, and enjoyed the famous Damascus shawarma”.
He pointed out that “shawarma” can be found in many places, but “the original shawarma dates back to Damascus with a long history extending back a century”.
This visit comes after Araghchi’s meeting with Assad, where he conveyed a message of support from the Iranian leadership to the Syrian government in the face of armed groups.
Analysts believe that Araghchi seeks through this visit to convey a message that the situation in Damascus is stable, and that Syria is capable of overcoming the current crisis.
Araghchi is scheduled to meet with senior Turkish officials upon his arrival in Ankara, to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments, including the situation in Syria.
Araqchi arrived in Damascus on Sunday at the head of a high-level delegation, where he held talks with Syrian President Bashar al Assad.
He explained to journalists that the meeting discussed the means of support that should be provided to Syria.
