Israel: 60% of Israelis believe Hezbollah hasn’t been defeated

An opinion poll broadcast by Israeli Channel 13 showed that a large majority believes that Israel hasn’t defeated the Lebanese Hezbollah, coinciding with the announcement of an agreement between the two sides that ends the open confrontation that has lasted for more than two months.

According to the poll, 60.8% of those surveyed believed that Israel didn’t achieve victory over Hezbollah, while only 25.8% believed that Israel won, and 13.4% were unsure.

Also, 44% of those who participated in the survey supported ending the war in Lebanon, while 37% opposed.

Regarding the Gaza front, the poll showed that 65.7% believe that the war in the Strip should end and a deal should be reached to return the detainees.

In the survey, 67.4% of the participants also responded that they support the establishment of a government investigation committee into what they consider Israeli government failure of October 7, 2023, which inflicted heavy human losses on Israel.

The Israeli Security Cabinet approved a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah on Tuesday.

Following the meeting, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a speech that he would present the agreement to the cabinet and that it would go into effect on Wednesday.

He revealed that Israel would retain what he described as complete freedom of action in Lebanon, and that if Hezbollah violated the agreement, Israel would respond forcefully.

Ministers in Netanyahu’s government and opposition leaders in Israel have criticized the agreement for coming before Hezbollah’s military defeat is guaranteed and doesn’t guarantee a safe return for residents of the north.
