BRICS countries adopt the Kazan Declaration at the Summit calling for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in the Gaza Strip
BRICS countries called for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, condemning Israeli attacks on humanitarian relief activities and infrastructure.
On Wednesday, BRICS countries adopted the “Kazan Declaration” after the summit held in the Russian city of Kazan.
The declaration stated that BRICS countries will continue to develop cooperation in the fields of politics, security, economy, finance, culture and humanity, and strengthen strategic partnership to make the international system more just.
The declaration stressed that unilateral and secondary economic sanctions are inconsistent with international law, calling for the removal of those restrictions that have negative effects on societies.
The declaration stated that the deteriorating situation and humanitarian crisis in the occupied Palestinian territories are escalating, and that violence in Gaza and the West Bank has increased to an unprecedented level as a result of Israeli operations.
BRICS countries expressed their concern over the Israeli attacks, and condemned the Israeli attacks on humanitarian relief activities and infrastructure.
BRICS stressed the need for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages and detainees held illegally by both sides, the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid and the cessation of all hostile acts.
The BRICS countries supported the initiatives to withdraw Israeli soldiers from the Gaza Strip, achieve an immediate ceasefire, and increase humanitarian aid.
BRICS warned that the escalation of the conflict in the Gaza Strip could lead to very serious consequences at the regional and international levels.
The BRICS countries also condemned the Israeli attacks on Lebanon and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
The declaration stressed the need to create conditions for a political and diplomatic solution that preserves Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and maintains peace in the Middle East.
Russia holds the presidency of the current session of the BRICS summit, which kicked off on Tuesday, and will continue until Thursday, October 24.
It’s worth noting that BRICS is an economic bloc founded in 2006, and includes China, Brazil, Russia, India, and South Africa, before Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the UAE join it in early 2024.
The Russian President Vladimir Putin warned BRICS leaders on Wednesday that the increasing resort to economic sanctions and protectionism threatens to provoke a global crisis.
“The potential for a serious crisis remains… It’s not only linked to ever-increasing geopolitical tensions, but also the expansion of unilateral sanctions, protectionism and unfair competition,” Putin said.
