Iran denies reports of arms transfers to Russia
Iran’s foreign ministry said on Tuesday that reports of Iranian arms transfers to Russia were ugly propaganda to hide Western military support for Israel, after Western powers said they would impose new sanctions on Tehran over its missile shipments to Russia.
“Spreading false and misleading reports about Iranian weapons transfers to some countries is nothing but ugly propaganda to hide the massive illegal arms support provided by the United States and some Western countries to the genocide in Gaza,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani wrote on X, without mentioning the new sanctions.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that Russia had received ballistic missiles from Iran and was likely to use them in Ukraine within weeks, warning that cooperation between Moscow and Tehran posed a greater threat to Europe’s security.
In addition to the United States, France, Germany and Britain said they would impose new sanctions on Iran, including measures targeting Iranian airlines Iran Air.
London, Berlin and Paris also announced the cancellation of bilateral aviation services agreements with Tehran.
“This action by the three European countries is a continuation of the West’s hostile policy and economic terrorism against the Iranian people, and will be met with a proportionate response from Iran,” Kanaani later said in a statement posted on the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s Telegram channel.
